Information we collect

Information you provide directly

When you use our receipt generator, you enter:

• Your name (as tenant)
• Your landlord’s name and email address
• Your property address
• Rent amount and payment details
• Payment method and dates

If you choose to save a receipt to your record (an optional step shown after your PDF downloads), we also collect:

• Your email address (used to identify your record)
• The receipt data you entered (so we can store the saved receipt and email you a copy)
• A one-way hashed version of your IP address, used only for abuse prevention; we never store your raw IP for saved receipts

If you create an account (optional, coming soon), we also collect:

• Your email address
• Account preferences and saved defaults

If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe. We do not store your credit card number, bank account details, or other payment credentials. Stripe’s privacy policy governs how they handle your payment information.

Information collected automatically

We use Vercel Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregate usage data including page views, visit duration, and referral sources. This data does not identify you personally and no cookies are used for tracking.

How we use your information

We use the information you provide to:

• Generate rent receipt PDFs as requested by you
• Send receipt emails to addresses you specify (via Postmark)
• Save your receipt history and auto-fill preferences (if you have an account)
• Generate year-end tax summaries (for paid plan users)
• Send you monthly receipt reminders (if you have an account; you can unsubscribe at any time)
• Respond to support inquiries

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We will never monetize your data.

Third-party services

These services only receive the minimum data necessary to perform their function.

Data retention

• Anonymous receipts (no account, no save): Receipt data is used to generate your PDF and is not stored on our servers after the PDF is created.
• Saved receipts: When you opt in to save a receipt to your record, we retain it indefinitely so it remains available as part of your ongoing rent payment history. You can request deletion at any time by emailing support@rentreceipt.io from the email address used to save the receipt; we will delete all saved receipts associated with that email.
• Account receipts (Phase 2, coming soon): Once accounts are available, your receipt data will be stored as long as your account is active. You will be able to delete individual receipts or your entire account at any time.
• Email logs: Postmark retains email delivery logs for 45 days for deliverability monitoring.

Your rights

You have the right to:

• Access the saved receipts associated with your email by emailing support@rentreceipt.io (account-based access is coming soon)
• Delete all receipts saved under your email by emailing support@rentreceipt.io from that address
• Opt out of reminder emails at any time via the unsubscribe link

To exercise any of these rights or to request a copy of all data we hold about you, email support@rentreceipt.io.

Data security

We protect your data through:

• Encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) on all pages
• Row Level Security (RLS) on our database ensuring you can only access your own data
• Secure authentication via Supabase Auth (magic link, no passwords stored)
• No storage of payment credentials (handled entirely by Stripe)

Children’s privacy

RentReceipt is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us at support@rentreceipt.io and we will promptly delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised.
